The match started at a ferocious pace and it was clear that Newry weren't there to just make up the numbers, the visitors knew that this would be a hard fought encounter.
As the Glynn men struggled to get to grips with the pace of the game they could do nothing but give a few penalties away as Newry dominated the break down. Larne soon seen themselves with a six point deficit with half time in sight.
Having regrouped, the visitors started to get themselves more into the game and controlled territory for the first time. As the ball was spread wide, Chris Rea found himself in a gap to power his way over the whitewash. Andrews converted to take Larne into half-time with a 6-7 lead.
Nerves were clearly a factor for the visitors as the thoughts of promotion were at the back of their minds. The coaches tried to settle things down before the start of the second half but unfortunately to little avail.
Larne made it difficult for themselves from the start of the second half by giving away field position. Although the Larne defence stood firm and the visitors didn't look like breaking through, the penalty count started to mount. Fortunately for Larne, the Newry full back was unable to get the ball between the posts on a couple of occasions.
Larne then mounted an attack of their own, as they picked out an overlap down the blind side, quick hands put McAlister away to find Garrett with a delicate off load to race away from the Newry defence for a well needed five pointer. Andrews was unable to convert but soon added a penalty to extend the Larne lead.
Although it was one of the sides worst performances of the season, they got the job done with a 9-15 victory.
With 13 wins from 13 in the league, Larne look to complete the season undefeated with their final league match at Ophir this Saturday and the Gordon West Cup Final at Ravenhill Kingspan Stadium on Saturday 18th April.
